Ray Gunn has more than 36 years of broad industry experience as a financial, operating and business development executive, including 28 years acting as the principal financial and strategic architect in the formation, funding, growth and sale/IPO of more than ten early-stage companies.
Gunn’s experience includes serving as CEO of MexAmerica Foods, a branded tortilla manufacturer in the Northeast USA.
He co-founded and was Managing Partner of Wingspan Capital Partners which made 11 controlling and minority investments in four years.
He co-founded and served as Chairman of the Audit Committee and Board of First Michigan Bank, renamed Talmer B&T, which today has more than $5 billion in assets and was recently sold to Chemical Bank in 2016.
He was President/CEO of VC-backed Clarity Technologies, Inc., which sold in 2005 for 18 times its revenue to CSR in Cambridge, England, now Qualcomm in the US. He was EVP/CFO of Somanetics Corporation (NASDAQ: SMTS), which went public in 1991 and later sold in 2010 for $299 million to Covidien in Ireland now Medtronic in the US. He Co-founded/managed three other private companies (Automation Data, Sierra Savings, Central Mortgage Services Inc.) all resulting in the acquisition by strategic suitors.
Earlier in his career, he was a Financial Manager and Analyst with Pulte Home Corporation and an Emerging Business Specialist and CPA with Deloitte & Touche.
Gunn currently serves on several boards including as Vice Chairman, Board of Visitors at Oakland University’s School of Business and the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Main Street Bank. He also serves on the Leadership Board of Orchard Ridge Church.
In 2006 Gunn was recognized as a Leader & Innovator by Lawrence Technological University and Grant Thornton. In 1992 he was recognized as an influential business leader in Crain’s Detroit Business 40 under 40.
Gunn earned his bachelor’s degree in management at Oakland University and attended graduate-level taxation classes at Walsh College. Mr. Gunn is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the AICPA and MICPA.
